Abstract :
This paper proposes an algorithm for sound source localization in a large area wireless sensor networks. The wireless sensor network design consists of a set of homogenous sensor nodes placed in a square grid and each node has the same specification of the microphone (receivers). Each node can sense the sound signal from an event like a gunshot and send the information on the time of detection of the event to a central place (Base Station). The Base Station will be responsible to process the information to compute the location of the sound source. The proposed algorithm is a combination of heuristic selection of a square from the uniform square grid topology of sensor nodes and the time difference of arrival of sound signal on sensors. These two parameters are the key to calculate the location of the unknown sound source. The simulation results used to verify the correctness of the algorithm.
