Abstract :
A number of wearable devices are becoming popular nowadays, giving rise to a number of possibilities for increased user convenience when doing everyday tasks. In this paper we propose a wearable smart watch with user customized gestures used to control a web browser on a smart TV running the Tizen Operating System. A mobile computing device, such as a smartphone, is used to translate the smart watch commands into a format that the TV can understand, as well as perform any other processing tasks. Since the smart watch is generally used by only one user, our system can incorporate user specific gestures to control the browser on the TV. Alternatively, the mobile phone can itself be held in the user´s hand instead of the smart watch, and used for making gestures. Such a system, using a smart watch or similar device for capturing the user´s gestures, is more user friendly than current systems on smart TVs that use a camera to track the hand gesture movements. We give the details of the implementation of the system and some tests to measure the accuracy of the detection of some hand gestures.
