Abstract
Precise estimation of the position and transmission power of the primary user is of great importance in cognitive radio (CR) networks. This information can help the secondary users to exploit the spatial resources better and reduce the interference with primary users. Received Signal Strength (RSS) and Angle of Arrival (AOA) are two common positioning algorithms used in CR networks that depending on the transmission conditions like SNR, one outperforms the other. In order to exploit the advantages of both algorithms, we propose a dynamic AOA-RSS positioning algorithm which in each estimation, based on a criterion, chooses the best algorithm for estimating the position of the target. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing RSS and AOA algorithms in estimation accuracy by choosing the best algorithm in each estimation without increasing the amount of computations.
