Abstract
TACRIM (the Spanish acronym for a critical junction antiblocking technique) is a new traffic control adaptive system that has demonstrated, through some extensive field trials and evaluation process, its real time capability to improve urban junctions optimization. It can be installed on both isolated or centralized local controllers (the two cases have been tested in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain). Due to the type and number of detectors required by the system, vision based systems are introduced in order to reduce installation cost and to ensure that all the capabilities are met. This paper focuses on the results obtained through the evaluation process done in Madrid on the system
