Abstract :
A new circuit for designing phased arrays based on the extended resonance technique is proposed. Extended resonance is a power dividing structure that allows construction of low complexity and cost phased arrays. Achievable phase shift between adjacent nodes of the phased array is studied and a new circuit structure to maximize the scan angle is investigated. Furthermore a modular approach for designing transmit phased arrays with large number of antennas is proposed. As a proof of principle, a 2 GHz seven-element transmit phased array with a scan angle of approximately 60 degrees has been demonstrated.
