Abstract
The details of a research program for the design of an accelerated aging test for solid dielectric cables sponsored by the Canadian Electrical Association is presented. The research will identify a reliable set of test conditions for an accelerated aging test to determine the relative performance of cables and provide a method for extrapolating cable performance to service conditions. The test parameters (applied voltage, temperature cycling, and ion content of the water) are rigidly controlled. The objectives and technical approach are discussed, and the experimental test setup is described
