  • Abstract
For the active sensor element of a pyroelectric device there exist two mechanisms of radiation absorption: either within the polymer foil or by the front electrode. Optimization of pyroelectric detector performance for measuring short laser pulses requires an adaptable device construction. This can be achieved by reducing the electrically active volumes by changing the electrode arrangement. Detector elements were prepared with pure and doped polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) films. For optimized volume and wave-guided absorption, risetimes in the subnanosecond range were achieved
