Abstract :
A novel fiber-optic MM-wave uplink incorporating 60 GHz-band photonic downconversion with the remotely fed optical pilot tone from the central station by using an electroabsorption modulator is presented. The error-free 156 Mb/s-DPSK 60 GHz-band MM-wave signal transport over 50 km-long standard single-mode fibers is successfully demonstrated. This system has an advantage that neither a light source nor any MM-wave sources are required at the base station, leading to a simple base station configuration.
