  • Abstract
    This paper presents a new, optimized PWM scheme and control approaches for a three-level two-quadrant chopper in a superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) power conditioning system (PCS). It solves the trickle charging and discharging issues related to the SMES coil, and gets wide system bandwidth for bi-directional operation. Experimental tests verified the effectiveness of the presented methods
