Abstract :
In this paper, practical evaluation of power control technique to combat multipath fading in wireless mobile communications is performed using computer simulation. Practical aspects of power control considered in this paper cover the effect of power update step size and the mobility rate of the user on the bit error rate (BER) performance. The fixed-step power control shows only a slightly lower performance than that of the variable step algorithm, and therefore is more desirable in order to minimize the signaling bandwidth in practical implementation. The effect of users´ mobility on power control performance also shows that variable step algorithm outperforms the fixed step algorithm only during high speed mobility, while during slow mobility both algorithms show a relatively comparable performance.
