Abstract :
In 1988 the New Bern North Carolina pulp mill implemented a millwide information system based on one developed at Weyerhaeuser´s Longview Washington Complex two years earlier. In the present work, the author examines the concept of millwide, what it is, why Weyerhaeuser developed their own systems, why New Bern copied the Longview system, what advantages there were, as well as what problems were encountered. Particular attention is paid to the differences in the two implementations, both the technical and the intangibles. A brief history of the original implementation is provided, but the primary focus is on the implementation at New Bern and how millwide is being implemented and managed there
