With a battery of Executive Function tasks and Theory of Mind tasks respectively demanding two levels of inhibitory control administrated on 117 Chinese children aged 34 to 66 months, the study demonstrates that inhibitory control is a latent cognitive mechanism in the relation between EF and ToM, and reveals that EF can well predict the performance of ToM at the two levels of inhibitory control.
