Abstract
The purpose of the low-level image processing that takes place in the retina is to compress the relevant visual information to a manageable size. The behavior of the external layers of the biological retina has been successfully modelled by a cellular neural network. In the present paper a specialized emulated digital CNN-UM architecture will be introduced which can be very efficiently used in the retina model calculations. The high performance of the proposed architecture makes it possible to emulate one channel of the model in real-time.
