Abstract
In this paper, we first summarize the economic and political background to this increasing interest in technology foresight. We identify some of the key drivers of change in an era of globalization, competition and a shift towards a more knowledge-intensive economy and society. Next, we introduce the definitions, rationales and objectives of technology foresight and why it is needed. At the same time, in this context technology foresight exercises are regarded effective tools for wiring up the innovation system. Finally, the paper shows technology foresight activities, the methodology of technology foresight at national level and foresight results as well as expectations relating to foresight activities in China.
