Abstract :
The authors describe the measurement of the microwave tensor permeability of a ferrite biased with a DC-magnetic field using a spherical cavity resonator. The principle of measurement, a practical spherical cavity, the measurement system, and the measurement results on YIG ferrite at 10 GHz are presented. The Q value of the spherical cavity is shown to be about 1.5-2 times higher than that of the rectangular or circular cavity resonator, making this cavity appropriate for precise measurements. Exact solutions can be obtained using this method. Using a spherical ferrite sample, the internal H/sub DC/ field is uniform and can be exactly calculated.<>
