Abstract :
In the scope of mobile systems and specifically the beyond 3G systems, handover presents a challenge due to the role it plays in achieving seamless mobility. In LTE, the current standardized mechanism is the received signal received power (RSRP) which is performed on the downlink path. Yet, due to the imbalances which are embedded between the uplink and the downlink path it necessary to take the uplink effect into consideration. To achieve this goal, a linear combination between the uplink and the downlink signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) was considered. Results show that in the case of asymmetric traffic distribution between the two paths in an interference limited scenario, the algorithm provided no gain. Yet in case of high imbalance between the two paths (uplink & downlink) and in attempt to move to a cell with lower imbalance, the algorithm provided a limited gain in the average throughput of users for asymmetric traffic.
