Abstract
An optimized synthesis method for the design of multiport branch-waveguide couplers with arbitrary output power distributions is presented. This component offers the potential to reduce the complexity, mass, and size of beam-forming networks of multiple or contoured satellite antennas. The proposed technique has been successfully used to design and manufacture a six-port five-branch coupler in the WR75 waveguide with a 10.95-12.75 GHz bandwidth. The measured results agree well with the computed frequency response. It is noted that the device discussed is also suitable for multimode antenna applications.<>
