Abstract :
This paper describes several methods for detection and prediction of power swing phenomenon in power systems. The paper provides an overview of some conventional and new techniques. The apparent impedance of distance relays, phasor calculation and rotor angle estimation are several methods for detection of power swing, reviewed in this paper. A least square method for prediction of rotor angle is described. An algorithm for prediction of power swing based on the predicted rotor angle is studied. Results obtained from simulation studies are used to demonstrate the performance of these methods. Using simulation studies, performances of different methods are compared.
