Abstract
The authors propose a multi-level and multi-degree form interface which can effectively overcome the ambiguity problems existing in current form interfaces. They also describe a theoretical framework which enables a system to assist designers in the construction of forms. The concept of hierarchical relational views is presented as a conceptual basis for the discussion of updatability in the form interface. Levels of supportability of the hierarchical relational views are defined. Such a foundation allows the system to create valid form. The scope of update operations for end users to utilize the form interface is also well defined. This form interface has been developed as part of a suite of database interfaces focusing on the multiplicity of data management requirements of office personnel
