Abstract :
General Aviation (GA) is really an active area compared with airline scheduled civil aviation. The figures with much more aircrafts, pilots and private airports than airline aviation can be statistically obtained in a lot of countries, such as US, UK etc. In China, from 2011, the restriction of low level space is broken and there is a gigantic plan for developing the general aviation industry. In this paper, the terrestrial mobile networks for near-ground navigation of the general aviation named as General Aviation Mobile Navigation System (GAMAS) is proposed and evaluated. Different from the other wireless navigation systems, GAMAS can directly make use of the terrestrial mobile system infrastructure to provide near-ground navigation service to GA aircrafts. It is really useful when GA aircrafts fly below 3000m and without GPS. In this paper, the near-ground navigation principle and the structure of GAMAS are illustrated. The accuracy of the GAMAS is guaranteed as long as enough base- stations are available. The simulation results confirm the validity of the proposed navigation scheme.
