Abstract :
The paper describes support of over 10000 networked workstations in a large corporate environment. The initial environment was terminals and PCs with terminal emulation networked to mainframes. The current environment includes both mainframes and very large local area networks. Several hundred engineering workstations are also attached to the current network. Many of the supported workstations are used by engineering organizations. However, manufacturing and business management organizations are also supported. Issues described include: network transition, staffing issues, organizational issues, technology, logistics and lessons learned
