Abstract
Summary form only given. This presentation will discuss the essentials of using the bidding process to form the basis for maintaining system reliability and establishing workable markets. Good pricing rules allow the system operator to maintain a minimal role in the market and use participant bids for most, if not all, of the system coordination decisions. The presentation will also discuss how participants can be allowed maximum flexibility the use of their assets. It will include a discussion on competing assets, including how demand response might impact the future landscape.
