Abstract :
A novel aerial imaging system consisting of two roof mirror arrays is proposed. The proposed imaging system is based on heterogeneous imaging, which means that the system forms an aerial real image in a crosswise direction and a virtual image in a lengthwise direction. The aerial image formed by the proposed system is not distorted by Seidel aberrations because the imaging is based on retro reflection. We developed an experimental display system and confirmed an aerial image that can be seen naturally in spite of the aerial image was formed only in a crosswise direction.
