Abstract :
The cooling storage has been considered as a new technique for use in air conditioning though the concept of this type of storage has been used for a long time in some industrial sectors. Amongst the numerous applications justifying the interest of such storage, the authors insist in particular on the function “assistance” allowed by the latent CRISTOPIA storage, which is an answer to the constant preoccupation of designers. A failure in the cooling system means a break down in production and of course a financial loss for the user. To give the cooling units the maximum safety it is usual to double the production system with an auxiliary system of the same power. Besides the high price, the use of the same type of technology for assistance and production does not mean a total reliability: the same causes often having the same effects. Therefore the “passive” technology storage function without moving mechanical parts is an opportunity. The size of assistance is established from the safekeeping period requested. This period can correspond to the intervention time required for a maintenance crew, it can extend from 1 to 5 hours
