Abstract
The design of a miniaturized antenna element for a broadband phased array over 4.75:1 bandwidth is presented. The antenna element is formed by a tightly-coupled dipole which is printed on a grounded dielectric substrate. The dipole is excited by an unbalanced feeding balun that eliminates external wideband baluns and feed organizers. The scan angles of the element which simulates infinite × infinite array through setting periodic boundary can achieve ±60 degrees. The results show that all active VSWRs are less than 2.4 over the entire frequency band.
