Abstract
Summary form only given. A new upgraded capillary discharge device has been designed and assembled. The set-up consists of a Marx generator, a pulse forming line, a gas-filled laser-triggered spark gap and a ceramic capillary. The laser triggering of the spark gap ensures a very low jitter in comparison with the current capillary discharge apparatus CAPEX, where the main spark gap works in the self-breakdown regime. The design of the device was preceded by detailed numerical simulations. The description and the first experimental results of the newly assembled apparatus (e.g. capillary current, capillary current rise-rate and/or pulse forming line voltage) are presented in this paper
