  • Abstract
The development of a flowing-electrolyte zinc/bromine battery for electric power storage is presented. The battery exhibited the following features, in addition to well-known features such as abundant availability of materials and high energy density: (1) The aqueous-electrolyte battery, when operated at ambient temperature, is characterized by easy maintenance and control. (2) With conductive carbon-plastic electrodes, it is suitable for mass production at low cost and for large-capacity applications. The design of a 50 kW battery module is reviewed from the points of view of efficiency, construction, reliability and safety. The results of application tests and cycle life tests are reported. The design of a 1 MW pilot plant is discussed. An investigation of the long-life electrode is described
