  • Abstract
This paper outlines the design and testing of an engineering prototype DC-DC converter and discusses the practicality of using a soft-switched auxiliary resonant commutated pole (ARCP). From a conceptual design, a 150 kW soft-switched engineering DC-DC converter was assembled and tested. The converter was designed to convert a 550 to 1100 V DC input into a regulated and isolated output of 270 V DC, at a switching frequency of 20 kHz. 1700 V DC IGBTs were used as the main switches, and high-frequency switching was achieved using pulsewidth modulation (PWM). Using test data, this paper shows the ARCP is not practical for input voltages greater than 800 V DC
