Abstract
Fine positioning by a piggy-back actuator is essential in order to increase the recording density of hard disk drives (HDDs). We therefore developed a piggy-back actuator that generates a 1.4-/spl mu/m displacement at 5 V. This displacement is twice as large as that of the usual piggy-back actuators. This actuator satisfies all requirements for HDDs including track density of 30 kilotracks per inch. It will help us attain low power consumption and high performance HDDs.
