Abstract
In this paper an analytical model is proposed to evaluate the performance of heterogeneous ad hoc networks with differing node mobility, traffic load and network size. Analytical results show that homogeneous and heterogeneous networks share the same characteristics when using reactive routing protocols. Nodes with higher mobility do not contribute a lot to the network performance degradation. No matter the network is homogeneous or heterogeneous, traffic load and network size could impose much more impacts on the network performance than volatile topology.
