Abstract :
Networked simulators and computer-supported wargames approaches to simulated training environments that support military collective training of units are discussed. The author attempts to clarify the role of the two technologies in order to facilitate better understanding and to aid further development of each using the most promising scientific ideas. The networking of simulators approach is compared to computer-supported wargaming first in a cognitive perspective. Then, they are compared in terms of the computer technologies they use, both in their hardware and software designs. Some significant directions for basic research to improve both approaches are considered
