Abstract :
A microcomputer-based simulation facility built to investigate the performance of bandwidth-efficient quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) codes is described. The author explores the computer simulation methodology for the primary rate integrated services digital network (ISDN). The management of large databases which hold the specific details of the subscriber loop plants and the electrical characteristics, of the cables constituting the segments of the loop are emphasized. Postprocessing of the data bases which hold the simulation results for loops in national databases is also explored. Systematic depiction of significant cluster noises in QAM signals is also presented: cross-comparing the system performance under various design options is thus feasible
