Abstract
We propose a design of an optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) encoder made of silicon based 2D and 1D photonic crystal (PC) structures. It adopts a two dimensional (2D) wavelength time coding scheme. The design with the coding scheme supports increased number of users. Most importantly, this design provides structural compactness by combining the three necessities (filter bank for spectral slicing, time gating at the chip rate and time delays) of an encoder into a single structure. The encoder can support 16 users by utilizing 8 wavelengths from a broadband incoherent source. Also the autocorrelation and cross correlation properties of the codes are verified.
