Thomas Jefferson, freedom and the SMC Society

Some ways are suggested in which system-level problem-solving can be continued in the Jeffersonian tradition. It is argued that Jefferson was a system-level thinker who used better methods in many ways than those used today, and usually sought larger values. He blended casuistry, scientific methods, and engineering method in pursuit of freedom, justice, and universal education in a manner which leaves much to emulate today. Many Jeffersonian proposals are outlined that deserve study by objective systems scientists to find those that may have abiding merit for promotion by society at large, for enactment by legislatures, and for voluntary adoption by corporations in their own self-interest of increasing productivity
