Abstract
The starting torque of the line-starting synchronous permanent magnet machines has two components, namely, the driving induction torque and the braking magnet torque. The synchronous PM motor can reach the speed of rotation close by synchronous ones if the asynchronous electromagnetic torque will be greater than the braking electromagnetic torque. The calculations were made for two different design of 3150 kW synchronous PM motor, namely, for complicated configuration with a squirrel-cage and more simple one without cage. Success of the synchronous PM motor starting stage depends only from rotor operation factors.
