Abstract
An object-oriented design approach is proposed for the development of graphical support systems in supervisory control environments. The focus of the design approach is to identify object classes that encapsulate all relevant aspects of the supervisory control system, in this case, communications networks. It is suggested that two sets of domain models are required to identify objects; models that support identification of object classes representing the structure and function of the technical system, and models that identify information and knowledge acquisition associated with the operators´ tasks. On the basis of their approach, the authors specify an architecture of an integrated graphical support system
