  • Abstract
The hardware configuration and control methodology for a test bench for power grid simulations for multi-MW wind energy applications are described. The variable voltage is generated using two (four in the final stage) medium voltage, three-phase, three-level voltage source converters with press-pack IGBTs and a specially designed step-up transformer. This system differs fundamentally from known grid simulation test benches that almost always use switched inductances. Simulation results using MATLAB/Simulink and measurements as well as constraints to the system are discussed.
