Abstract
Rate control is an important issue in real time multimedia transmission for wired and wireless networks. TCP-friendly rate control - TFRC is a widely accepted rate control scheme in wired networks. However, it assumes that packet loss is only due to congestion. In wireless network, a large amount of packet loss is due to error at the physical layer. In this work, we present a modified TFRC for wired-wireless hybrid network which uses jitter ratio as the signal to differentiate congestion losses and wireless error losses. Extensive simulations on NS-2 verifies that the new mechanism has better goodputs performance than TFRC as well as keep acceptable friendliness to TCP flows
