Abstract
The essential purpose of this paper is to describe an architecture, in a simple and complete way, which enables the access and processing of individual pixels corresponding to each frame of a video signal captured in real time; with the aim of facilitating developments made by researchers in the field of image processing, as well as promoting the creation of academic applications in this area. An additional possibility of the publication consists of providing a framework where researchers that are not interested in the programming aspects of the paper can incorporate their image signal processing algorithms without the need to understand the details explained here. The architecture presented uses the Java JMF API, which offers a simple, robust, extendable, multi-platform solution. It is also requires no direct maintenance as regards the incorporation of future video cameras and codecs that come out on the market
