Abstract
The concept of direct-contact heat transfer between the phase-change storage medium (clathrate) and the heat-transfer cyclic fluid in which heat-transfer enhancement is achieved is experimentally and theoretically investigated. The aim is to provide clear insights into the phase change of the storage medium and present a mathematical model that is compatible with the latent-heat release rate. A finite-difference computer code utilizing the apparent heat capacity model has been developed to predict the experimental temperature fields inside an insulated cylindrical horizontal thermal energy storage tank as time progresses
