Abstract
With the rapid development of network technology, deployment of distributed interactive virtual environment (DIVE) applications over modern networks is becoming even more popular. However, the best effort model, existing on the Internet, cannot satisfy the QoS requirements of networked DIVE applications. In order to make the Internet quality of service (QoS)-capable, IETF proposed a series of protocols and algorithms, some of them forming what are known as "differentiated services". In this paper, we focus on analyzing the performance of DIVE applications over a Diffserv-capable network. We propose a new Diffserv architecture, suitable for supporting DIVE applications. Performance evaluation results confirm that the proposed architecture can support large-scale deployment of DIVE applications in future Internet-based networks.
