Abstract
This paper presents a novel approach based on first-order eigenvalue sensitivity to analyze an isolated self-excited series connected synchronous generator (SESCSG) under different operating conditions. A balanced three-phase induction-motor model is employed to derive the equations of an isolated SESCSG under various loading conditions. Both maximum and minimum values of excitation capacitance, minimum loading resistance and cutoff speed of the studied machine can be effectively determined by using the proposed approach. Experimental results obtained from a laboratory 1.1 kW induction machine are also performed to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method
