Abstract :
An adaptive halftoning algorithm is introduced. It colligates the error-propagation and error-convergence technologies, adjusts the threshold and the error diffusion weights by minimizing the local error criterion to produce more high quality bilevel or multilevel images. The method of least mean squares (LMS) is used in the minimizing process. Experiments show that this algorithm achieves better results than general error diffusion algorithms. Based on this algorithm, the multiresolution display can be realized. It just needs to store the highest resolution picture. The low resolution version can be expressed through the downsample. This characteristic is possessed by the image constructed with the method. The image quality is high in these experiments
