Abstract
A novel approach using the first iteration of FDLF (fast decoupled load flow) and the first iteration of AESOPS (Analysis of Essentially Spontaneous Oscillations in Power Systems) has been proposed for dynamic contingency selection. The proposed method uses the first iteration of FDLF to determine the system operating condition and then uses the first iteration of AESOPS to estimate worst-damped eigenvalues. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, outage events on the transmission of the Taiwan power system are studied. It is found that an accurate ranking list can be achieved very efficiently by using the developed first-iteration method. The computational burden incurred in dynamic security assessment can thus be alleviated since only those cases at the top of the ranking list require detailed dynamic stability analyses.<>
