  • Abstract
Interactive courseware packages have played an effective role in educational workshops and programs. They can enhance the understanding of concepts and increase student involvement. Design courses pose challenges to both the faculty and the students, since a wide range of perspectives are demanded. The power of computer-assisted instruction is very useful in developing such courses. Electrical distribution system design requires both physical and technical understanding, that can be provided using geographic information system (GIS) and analysis software. Circuit routing presents shortest distance problems, while choice of conductors and voltage level needs to satisfy specified voltage profiles. Overall cost depends on all these factors. The design and implementation of software for teaching underground secondary distribution system design is achieved in this paper. The faculty can use the software to impart the nuances in designing the secondary distribution system. The student can fulfil a design assignment with greater practical satisfaction
