Abstract :
Experiments conducted at steadily increasing ranges to explore the feasibility of using reciprocal acoustic transmissions to measure currents in the midocean are discussed. The relevant theory is given, followed by a description of the experiment. Acoustically derived tidal currents and subinertial currents are compared with independent measurements. The circulation around a triangle in the North Pacific approximately 1000 km on a side is computed, but no direct measurements are available for comparison
