Abstract
A compact easy to use, solution to the collection and processing of directional wave data, called the S4DW, is described. The S4DW, fitted with a 0 -70m range depth sensor, 14-h A/D converter, and 1 Mbyte of nonvolatile memory, is a convenient means of collecting directional wave data. This arrangement provides a point measurement approach, combining wave pressure and wave particle kinematics in two directions at a 2-Hz sampling speed, to permit computation of wave orbital direction and energy (pressure) as a function of frequency. A complete description of the water current field and tide data can be computed. The companion software outputs graphical and tabular results for each wave burst, as well as a summary of wave parameters and current and tide data
