Abstract :
The paper first analyzes the relationship between airspace and traffic flow, and abstracts their logical dependency with each other from a system theory standpoint. Then we propose a complexity metric that builds on the emergence alliance effects in various traffic situations. As an intrinsic attribute parameter, ¿Approaching Factor¿ is defined to reflect the spatial location encroaching trend of aircraft pair-wise and the urgency degree of control intervention. In order to describe the probability of future traffic, and from this to represent the comprehensive influence by the entire traffic upon the aircraft, we consequently construct ¿Probability Factor¿, which is based on ¿Approaching Factor¿, to amplify influences of local traffic, and meanwhile highlights the traffic coupling effect. To measure the asymmetrical dimension, ¿Alliance Factor¿ is defined to characterize the coupling of air traffic, indicating the synchronization as an emergence. Finally, the paper constructs an air traffic complexity metric, which synthesizes ¿Approaching Factor¿ and ¿Alliance Factor¿. Through detailed illustrative analysis of several specific samples, the proposed complexity metric is preliminarily verified.
