Abstract
Microwave technology is a key foundation of today´s communications satellites. Most communications satellite payloads employ numerous microwave components and assemblies in order to perform their required mission. Looking ahead, the continuous evolution of payload requirements involves providing more flexibility, higher power, and wider bandwidth. Key challenges to satellite microwave technology are the development of higher power amplifiers, wider bandwidth devices, flexible components such as tunable local oscillators and tunable filters, and reconfigurable antennas. Satellite manufacturers and component suppliers that come closest to meeting these technical challenges while meeting end customer´s business case will be the most successful.
