Abstract
In the reliability field, statistical standards have played a major role in disseminating powerful techniques outside of the purely academic area and into the industrial and commercial world. However, there are still obstacles that have to be surmounted to achieve global usage of these techniques. The author identifies these obstacles, proposes strategies to overcome them in the next century, and relates these strategies to present developments inside the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
